Curriculum & Benefits
Curriculum
VRiends socially focused curriculum covers three different stages of skill development:
  • Stage 1: Learning foundational skills like asking questions, making comments, and having basic conversations
  • Stage 2: Practicing foundational skills and taking them to the next level with topics like nonverbal cues, disagreements, and initiating play
  • Stage 3: Exploring more complex topics like bullying, self esteem, self identity, humor, social media, and rejection

VRiends sessions employ a variety of activities and experiences to engage and teach learners in either one-on-one or group settings. From interactive games and educational videos to environments that allow learners to manipulate 3D objects and interact with peers, VRiends makes sure learners stay motivated and have fun.

The curriculum is based on in-depth knowledge of both behavioral science and the latest research on VR use in learning environments. Though VR is still an emerging technology, studies consistently show that VR is a very effective tool to help promote positive social skills development. It provides a much more engaging and motivating experience than a 2D interface, and has been shown to help learners retain information over a longer period of time.
Benefits
Easier, more
convenient access
to services
Booking specialized services can be challenging even in a major metropolitan area, and almost impossible in more rural areas. VRiends provides fast, convenient access to a wide range of service providers regardless of client location.
VRiends specialists are highly qualified professionals with the skills and experience to provide effective facilitation and therapy. They are also fun, energetic, creative, and empathetic people who are passionate about making positive changes in kids’ lives.
Highly qualified
specialists
Much more than a video meeting, VRiends offers an immersive experience that literally brings kids into a whole new world. Sessions include many different activities and games as well as field trips
to virtual destinations. And having
a facilitator to guide the experience ensures that every child is comfortable and has fun.
A fun, immersive,
and engaging
experience
VRiends builds highly effective and fun groups by matching kids with shared common interests and hobbies while at the same time balancing personality types
to encourage positive interaction dynamics. While the sessions are structured, there are many natural opportunities for learners to engage with each other and form bonds.
The opportunity
to make friends
and learn new skills
While each session experience
is designed to be engaging for the learners, the lessons and activities are built on a framework of scientific research and the behavior skills training model. This model teaches skills in a specific sequence that has been proven
to increase retention over the long term, which helps learners internalize skills for use in the real world.
Evidence-based
curriculum
In addition to generally being less expensive than traditional, in-person services, VRiends also helps families lower expenses by eliminating the cost of traveling to real-world offices, and by providing group options that share fees while giving kids a valuable opportunity for social interaction. And the convenience of accessing VRiends from anywhere at almost any time means less time spent coordinating around other activities.
Time and cost
savings
Unlike other VR spaces supposedly designed for kids, VRiends is a fully curated, invite-only experience that is always facilitated by a trained specialist. VRiends learners will never be exposed to the kind of bullying and inappropriate behavior so often found in other virtual spaces. And if conflict does arise
in a VRiends group session, the facilitator works with the learners
to create a teachable moment that benefits everyone in the group.
